He subsequently posted on X, stating, “Nearly $8 billion in Green New Scam funding to fuel the Left’s climate agenda is being cancelled. More info to come from @ENERGY.” Vought then itemized 16 states where these projects were situated, notably all of which had cast their votes for Vice President Kamala Harris in previous elections, underscoring the political targeting of these cuts.

Infrastructure Funding Frozen in Key States

Beyond environmental initiatives, Vought also declared the suspension of approximately $18 billion in federal funding allocated for two significant infrastructure developments in New York. This move is particularly impactful as New York is the home state of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, the top Democratic leaders in Congress. The decision to freeze these funds in the leaders’ home state highlights the strategic and politically charged nature of Vought’s actions during the shutdown.
