Slender Man Stabber Fled Facility Over Friendship

Morgan Geyser, the woman infamous for her role in the 2014 “Slender Man” stabbing, reportedly fled her Wisconsin group home recently due to fears of separation from a companion. Chad “Charley” Mecca, a transgender woman who was apprehended alongside Geyser, stated that Geyser’s escape was motivated by the prospect of no longer being able to visit Mecca.

“She ran because of me,” Mecca disclosed in a telephone interview with Wisconsin news outlet WKOW. Mecca and Geyser were found and detained at a truck stop just outside Chicago on Sunday night. Mecca clarified that she only understood Geyser’s specific reason for fleeing after they had reached Illinois, but she stands by her actions. “At the end of the day, I followed what I thought was right. I stand by it,” Mecca affirmed.

Consequences for Geyser and Mecca

For absconding from the Madison group home where she had been residing since March, 23-year-old Geyser now faces the possibility of being sent back to a psychiatric institution. This facility is where she was initially committed after entering a guilty plea to charges stemming from the repeated stabbing of a middle school classmate. The attack, which occurred in 2014, was carried out to appease the fictional digital horror character known as Slender Man.

Meanwhile, 43-year-old Mecca is confronting her own legal challenges. She faces charges in connection with her and Geyser being discovered sleeping on a sidewalk in Posen, Illinois. According to a report from the Posen police department, the pair may have been attempting to travel to Nashville, Tennessee, when officers intervened following a loitering complaint at the truck stop.

The Infamous Slender Man Stabbing

The case involving Morgan Geyser has garnered significant national and international attention since its inception. Geyser pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide after she stabbed fellow school friend Payton Leutner 19 times. The harrowing incident unfolded in 2014 when all three girls—Geyser, Leutner, and Anissa Weier—were just 12 years old.

During a sleepover, Geyser and Weier persuaded Leutner to accompany them to a park in Waukesha, Wisconsin. There, Geyser carried out the brutal attack, stabbing Leutner repeatedly while Weier encouraged her. Leutner miraculously survived the near-fatal assault.

Both Geyser and Weier subsequently made global headlines when they confessed to investigators that they had attacked Leutner as a sacrifice to the internet boogeyman, Slender Man. They claimed to have become convinced that the entity would harm their families if they failed to commit the stabbing. Slender Man, an unnaturally tall, gaunt figure, is the imagined creation of online forum user Eric Knudson, originating from a 2009 internet meme contest.

This latest escape underscores the ongoing complexities of mental health treatment and the lasting impact of a crime that shocked the world, bringing the Slender Man case back into the public consciousness.
