Their findings are stark: New England has warmed by an average of 2.5 degrees Celsius (4.5 degrees Fahrenheit) over this 124-year period. This figure dramatically surpasses the global average warming of approximately 1.3 degrees Celsius during the same timeframe, a rise primarily attributed to the release of heat-trapping gases from the combustion of fossil fuels.

“That is very fast, which is worrying,” Young emphasized, highlighting the urgency of these climate trends.

The research indicates a distinct pattern in temperature increases: minimum and nighttime temperatures are climbing at a faster rate than maximum and daytime temperatures.
