FBI ‘Paralyzed by Fear’ Under Director Kash Patel, Report Claims
A comprehensive 115-page assessment, compiled by a national coalition of current and former FBI special agents and analysts, paints a troubling portrait of the Federal Bureau of Investigation under Director Kash Patel. The scathing document, exclusively obtained by the New York Post, alleges that Patel is “in over his head” and presiding over an organization “chronically under-performing” and gripped by widespread apprehension, with morale at an all-time low.
The internal review, prepared for both the Senate and House judiciary committees, draws on confidential testimonies from 24 FBI sources. These individuals contend that Director Patel lacks the requisite experience to effectively lead the premier federal law enforcement agency. A central accusation is that managers within the bureau are hesitant to initiate action without explicit directives, fearing professional repercussions.
Leadership Under Scrutiny
Patel’s initial six months at the helm have, according to the report, created a “troubling picture” of an institution described by internal voices as a “rudderless ship.” Two separate sources independently characterized the director as being “in over his head.” One informant elaborated, stating Patel “lacks the requisite knowledge or deep understanding of all the FBI’s unique and complex investigative and intelligence programs.”
The most significant charge leveled in the report is that the FBI has become “internally paralyzed by fear.” Multiple sources indicate that managers are “afraid of losing their jobs” and are “waiting on directions from the FBI director” rather than exercising independent judgment or initiative. This atmosphere of trepidation is not entirely new, with roots tracing back to events preceding Patel’s nomination.
Patel’s Past Criticisms Fueling Current Climate
Before assuming his current role, Patel publicly accused the FBI of complicity in a “deep state” conspiracy against former President Donald Trump. He advocated for a radical restructuring of the bureau, suggesting the closure of its Washington headquarters and the redistribution of its workforce across the nation. Furthermore, he openly criticized the FBI, alleging political weaponization during investigations involving Trump.
These prior public statements, according to the report, have contributed significantly to the current climate of fear and inaction within the agency. Agents and analysts are reportedly wary of making decisions that could be perceived as contrary to the director’s expectations, given his past criticisms of the bureau’s integrity and operations.
White House Defends Director
In response to the leaked report, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson issued a statement defending the administration’s appointments. “President Trump has assembled the most talented and impressive administration in history and they are doing an excellent job carrying out the President’s agenda,” Jackson affirmed.
She specifically addressed the criticisms leveled against Patel, adding, “FBI Director Patel is a critical member of the President’s team and he is working tirelessly to restore integrity to the FBI.” The White House’s staunch defense contrasts sharply with the grim assessment presented in the 115-page document, highlighting a significant divergence in perception regarding the current state and leadership of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
